Adobe Flores in Pasadena, California was begun in 1839 by Jose Perez and expanded over time. These beautiful drawings record both its original construction and its expansion. The single story design surrounds 3 sides of a courtyard with a fountain. One wing contains 3 bedrooms. The opposite wing contains a kitchen and "maid's room" which could be made part of a larger farmhouse style kitchen. The dining and living rooms occupy the main block.
As a work of art these prints are worth purchasing in their own right. For those of you interested in building a historically inspired house, these plans offer an excellent starting point. Although ideal for a flat site, these plans would also work on a low sloping one. The house has outside dimensions of approximately 70’x86’.
The Mission style, which reached its heyday in the 1920s, was an eclectic mix of styles and sources, from Native American pueblo, and Mission, to Spanish Renaissance. Even elements of New England Colonial worked their way into the mix through the influence of schools and outposts built by the Federal government.
