This listing is for prints on 20# bond paper. It is for architectural drawings only. Any photos shown in the description are informational only and not included in this package.
The prints you are purchasing are crisp, high resolution black line copies on white bond paper. The original drawings were beautifully delineated in 1936. This extensive set of 7 drawing sheets includes a site plan, 3 floor plans, 6 exterior elevations, and a sheet of details showing doors, windows and trim profiles. The sheds were torn down soon after these drawings were made, when the property was bought by Henry Ford and major restoration work was done. The original drawings rest in the Library of Congress.
As a work of art these prints are worth purchasing in their own right. For those of you interested in building a historically inspired house, these plans offer an excellent starting point. The design is a classic “4 by 4” plan with a central hall running down the middle and 2 rooms on either side. On the ground floor the front rooms have all been opened up to make one large Living Room stretching the width of the house, with a Kitchen and Dining Room behind. In the gambrel roofed attic there are 4 bedrooms and a small room which could serve as a bath. More likely you might transform 2 of the bedrooms into a Master Bedroom/Bath suite. Although ideal for a flat site, these plans would also work on a moderately sloping one. This house would be comfortable in a suburb or country setting. Excluding the sheds the main house has outside dimensions of approximately 35’x38’-6”.
SHIPPING: Your drawings are shipped to you, rolled, not folded, in a Priority Mail tube. This eBay listing includes architectural prints ONLY. Any photos shown in the description are for information only and are NOT included in your purchase.
IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO BUILD: These plans are not complete architectural drawings as might be required by your local permitting agency and do not contain all the structural, waterproofing and other details and information necessary for construction. But your local builder or architect should be able to adapt these drawings and add to them as necessary. What they do provide is accurate design information about a REAL Antebellum house, not a pseudo-southern tract house as you will find in the house plan magazines on your supermarket shelf
