George Maher, one of the founding members of the Prairie School and a disciple of Louis Sullivan, designed the Magerstadt house around 1906. In it he skillfully adapted the Prairie ideal to a narrow city lot in Chicago. The long, narrow plan creates an impression of extended space, with vistas from one room, through the next, to outdoor terraces. He also created some beautiful designs of stained glass and built-in cabinetry, making the interior a real jewel.
This extensive set of 4 drawing sheets includes a cover sheet with notes, a site plan, 3 floor plans, 2 exterior elevations, and 2 sections. As a work of art these prints are worth purchasing in their own right. For those of you interested in building a historically inspired house, these plans offer an excellent starting point. These plans are ideal for a flat site and are also well suited for a narrow lot. The side entry leads into an entry hall in the middle of the house, with the living room and its terrace towards the street and the dining room and its terrace towards the garden. Kitchen and pantry are to one side. There is also a small bedroom and half-bath on this floor. The second floor contains a Bed/bath suite, 3 additional bedrooms and another bath. The attic, with its rather low ceiling, contains a game room, bedroom and bath. The house has outside dimensions of approximately 29’ x 98’.
The prints you are purchasing are crisp, high resolution black line copies on white bond paper. Any photos shown in the description are informational only and are NOT included in your purchase.
SHIPPING: Your drawings are shipped to you, rolled, not folded, in a Priority Mail tube. This listing includes architectural prints ONLY. Any photos shown in the description are for information only and are NOT included in your purchase. For information about the photos please send me a message. Thanks.
IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO BUILD: These plans are not complete architectural drawings as might be required by your local permitting agency and do not contain all the structural, waterproofing and other details and information necessary for construction. But your local builder or architect should be able to adapt these drawings and add to them as necessary. What they do provide is accurate design information about a REAL historic house, not a pseudo-historic tract house as you will find in the house plan magazines on your supermarket shelf.
INTERNATIONAL BUYERS PLEASE NOTE: Orders shipped to addresses outside the USA may be subject to customs duties at their destination. The buyer is responsible for any such duties.
